Please join us for a symposium on the state of the public university, co-sponsored by the Americanist Seminar, the Rutgers British Studies Center, and the Office of the President. Of special interest to Americanists is the 1:45 pm talk by Christopher Newfield (Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara), entitled, “The Future of the Public University in the Age of Privatization,” which will be introduced by Rutgers’ Meredith McGill.

The Economies of Affect Working Group, a cooperative effort of Rutgers University and the City University of New York, presents Lauren Berlant, the George M. Pullman Professor of English at the University of Chicago. Her talk is entitled, “Structures of (Un)feeling: Mysterious Skin.” This event is co-sponsored by the Rutgers University Institute for Research on Women and the Department of American Studies.
